Not sure if any of you have heard of this, but there is a
resurfacing ransomware virus which infects your computer through emails, general updates, and browsers that encrypts your server and/or computer data. While the virus is easily removed after infection, they will still have your data completely encrypted which cannot be reached without paying their ransom. In research, I have found that 49% percent of people infected would rather pay ransom than deal with the burden. However, there have been a few cases in which people would pay the ransom and never receive their decrypted data in return. Furthermore, this ransomware virus has already extorted over three million dollars from business owners in its first year alone! What is it called? CryptoLocker, CryptoWall and recently seen as TorrentLocker.
So let’s get to the good stuff. What is the best way to protect my computer/server from CryptoWall Virus? My first piece of advice would be backup your data off site so that it is safely restored later. At Computers Done Right we offer generational backup straight from our website for $9.99/month per business machine. We know your data is important and we are here to be sure it is done right for your business. Some of you may ask “Why this is important?” with generational backup every time you make a change to your business computer the software automatically scans the machine for changes and backs up those changes. My other piece of advice would be..do NOT attempt updates on your business computer without an IT professional. Most of these updaters are no longer safe; some consumers have even reported getting this ransomware from direct updates on seemingly safe websites.
